About Harriet Dickin Racing
Our Story
Harriet Dickin took over the training licence from her father Robin in May 2022 when they moved to Bourton Hill Farm. Having grown up in a racing yard, Harriet has ridden since she could walk and has run a string of event horses for several years competing up to 4* level. She successfully started training point to pointers in 2020 and has taken up the reins from Robin as the team moved location in May 2022.
Harriet held an amateur jockeys’ licence but swerved the perils of race riding for the equally perilous sport of eventing, and tutoring from the likes of Yogi Breisner, Chris Bartle & Tina Cook put her in good stead to establish her own yard alongside her partner Dominic Ruane. The pointers then followed in the shape of Cahill FitzGerald Bloodstock ownership, before Harriet decided to take the next step with a professional licence.
The move to Bourton Hill Farm provided a platform for Harriet to start her training career before moving to her current stables at Upper Twinhoe Farm, near Bath. With a strong and experienced team working alongside Harriet, excellent gallops & schooling facilities, plenty of turn out and off road hacking the horses really do have the best chance of success, and owners are assured of the very best attention to detail for the horses and great fun for themselves, friends and family!
OUR EXPERIENCED TEAM
Running a busy yard is very labour intensive, and we are fortunate to have a great support team behind us.
Trainer
Harriet has grown up on a racing yard, her father Robin formerly being a jockey and trainer.
Robin handed the reins to Harriet in May 2022, who took over the licence as the family business moved to Bourton Hill Farm.
Harriet has also always had a passion for eventing. She has trained with the great Chris Bartle and been based some top-class riders such as Laura Collett and Tina Cook. Harriet has ridden up to 4* level and uses many of the skills learnt in that sphere to educate the young racehorses.
Assistant Trainer
Dominic is a key player in the training of the racehorses, he works with them daily to establish their foundations in both flat and jump ridden work.
Dominic has worked with horses all his life, training with the likes of Sir Mark Todd, the Fredricks and Fergal O’Brian before setting up his own yard. His first major successes were in 2005 when he represented Great Britain at the Young Rider European Championships in Sergersjo, Sweden. In 2006 Dom completed his first 5* at Burghley, riding his own Highwayman VII and in 2008 he completed Badminton on Hunters Legend.
Head Girl
Katie joined the team in March 2024, Katie has worked in racing since she was 15, she manages the day to day running of the yard as well as riding out and traveling to the races.
Katie is an integral part of the team, she knows every horse inside out and is always looking for small details that can improve every individual, equine and human!
Resident conditional jockey
Bradley joined us last season and is a great addition to the team, since joining us he has ridden many winners for us.
Bradleys 3lb claim is invaluable but with his current success he won’t be claiming for long!
Caitlin joined us from the Racing College for her 6-week internship, she has now been with us 2 years and has developed her skills throughout this time, Caitlin has a yard-based role and helps Katie over see the day to day running of the yard as well as going racing.
Jo has just joined HDR, she oversees all the traveling and ensures we have everything we need when going to the races, as well as helping out with anything that may crop up!
Emily started working for HDR on Saturdays, she has developed her riding skills and is starting to ride fast work as well as supporting the yard staff at the weekends.
Maxine works mornings helping keep the yard ship shape so we can focus on the horses exercise.
As well as looking after the horse’s backs and running her own Chiropractic business treating both people in her clinic and clocking up the miles treating horses away from the yard, Claire assists in the day to day running of the yard & office as well as organising the several partnerships that are run from the yard.
Robin started his career in racing immediately upon leaving school at the tender age of 14! He joined firstly Frenchie & then David Nicholson, spending eleven years with the latter whilst riding on the flat and then over jumps, riding a total of 115 winners.
He trained 500 winners before handing over the licence to Harriet in 2022 and remains an integral part of the yard. His extensive knowledge is put to good use in advising and helping with entries, as well as also looking after the gallops!
